2015 Lowe Organic Merlot

Product Description

It’s been a while since we had a straight Merlot made this way. It was useful for preservative free, it made delicious sparkling red (remember the Bobby Lowe 2009).

In fact the last release was 2006 and I had a bottle with friends two months ago. Mature but sound, not overly complex but ever so soft.

For the 2015, I took the French Pomerol process to another level with some soaking on skins for 24 hours prior to adding the natural yeast from the Block 5 vineyard (our great yeast culture). Ferment was longer than normal (six days and not as hot as normal 26 -28C) with the soaking a few days after fermentation to build richness.

Then after pressing it was off to new and two year old French oak puncheons for 18 months before bottling in late 2016.

It has sat around for over 12 months and now that it is ready I see a bit of cooked beetroot, some sweet vanilla from oak and a roasted coffee after taste.

This is a really yummy wine if you can say such a thing. We made 1500 bottles and it will fly out the door.
